First Days

The kids all had a great first week of school!

Maggie (2nd grade) and Chap (Pre-Kindergarten) started at Eagle Heights Christian Academy on Monday.

The final weeks leading up to the end of the summer went fast and furious.  Maggie had moments of excitement as well as moments of nervousness about 2nd grade.  She was worried it would be too hard. However, the nervousness was dampened a bit with excitement about the first days of school. She met her teacher, Mrs. Belek the Thursday before school started, and that excited her even more.  Monday "finally!" came, and she woke up ready to face 2nd grade!  She was adorned with her pink western/horse backpack and lunch bag, with her pink dress!  Any guesses on her favorite color?  She had a very successful week.  The best part of her day is lunch, she says.  Although, when she got in the car each day, she talked a lot about PE and the new teacher!

All summer, Chap would honestly tell you... "I'm not ready for school."  Anytime someone asked him if he was ready, he politely shook his head in disagreement.  He met his teacher, Mrs. Baker at Meet the Teacher night during the week before school, too. He handled it with poise and pride.  He knows Mrs. Baker from early morning care last year, as she is the preschool director at Eagle Heights.  So, the transition was a little easier.  The Sunday night before school started, he had a rough night.  He was scared, didn't want to go to school, afraid it would be too hard, what if friends didn't like him, what if he did something wrong... everything in the book - his 4-year old mind thought of.  He had a really hard time falling asleep.  He woke up on Monday morning, with NO tears and ready to face the day.  His tummy was hurting, but he fought through the pain and the drop off was as smooth as I could ask for! He was so big going into his prekindergarten class, and ready to learn with his elephant backpack and elephant lunch bag.  He gets into the car each day with lots of stories, and fun things about his day!

Whit (Preschool II)  started his first day at The Rise School of Houston on Thursday (after Maggie and Chap started on Monday).  He was giddy with excitement all night Wednesday and on Thursday getting ready for the day.  By the time we dropped off Maggie and Chap in Pearland, and sat through Houston traffic - his excitement diminished a bit as we drove into the parking lot of the new school. He was most proud of his John Deere tractor shirt, John Deere tractor backpack, and John Deere tractor lunch bag. He went in with no problems (he'd been there a few times with me during the summer, and had met his teachers).  I passed one of the teacher assistants during the day, and she said, "Your son is having a BLAST!" He LOVES it here, and is truly having a blast. He is doing great!!  His favorite part of his day is when they go to the "Sunshine Room" (an indoor gross motor room).  He also told his daddy and Pops and Bibs about the therapist (me) that came into his classroom on Friday.  Here, at Rise, he gets all of his therapies integrated into his classroom - Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Music Therapy, and Language Therapy.  Music Therapy is on Monday - Wednesday, OT is on Thursdays, PT is on Mondays, and Language is on Fridays.  As my mom said, "I can't wait to see him SOAR!"

(His brother and sister were proud to see him off to school!)
